  • What do we want out of life?
  • The Average person?

Job  7:6          My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope

 7:7     O remember that my life [is] wind: mine eye shall no more see good.

 7:8     The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no [more]: thine eyes [are] upon me, and I [am] not.

 7:9     [As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more]

 7:10   He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

Psalms  10:3 For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, [whom] the LORD abhorreth

 10:7   His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue [is] mischief and vanity.

39:4    LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it [is; that] I may know how frail I [am].

 39:5   Behold, thou hast made my days [as] an handbreadth; and mine age [is] as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state [is] altogether vanity. Selah.

Ecclesiastes  2:22    For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?

 2:23   For all his days [are] sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

 2:24   [There is] nothing better for a man, [than] that he should eat and drink, and [that] he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it [was] from the hand of God.

Ecclesiastes  3:1      To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

Ecclesiastes  3:19    For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all [is] vanity.

 3:20   All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Ecclesiastes  8:15    Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labour the days of his life, which God giveth him under the sun.

Ecclesiastes  9:5      For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Ecclesiastes  11:9    Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these [things] God will bring thee into judgment.

 40:20            He that [is] so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree [that] will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image, [that] shall not be moved.

 40:21            Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

 40:22            [It is] he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof [are] as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

 42:2   He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

 42:3   A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

 42:4   He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

 42:5   Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein

 42:6   I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

 42:7   To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, [and] them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

 42:8   I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images

 4:18   Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

 4:19   Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness

 4:20   But ye have not so learned Christ;

 4:21   If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

 4:22   That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

 4:23   And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

 4:24   And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

2 Peter  2:17            These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.

 2:18   For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, [through much] wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

 2:19   While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

Matthew  24:6        And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all [these things] must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

 20:35            I have showed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

  • What’s the good of ‘Serving Others’ when you are not willing to ‘Serve your Creator’?
  •   ie. What good will it do you in the Short term?

Ecclesiastes   2:21   For there is a man whose labour [is] in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it [for] his portion. This also [is] vanity and a great evil.

 2:22   For what hath man of all his labour, and of the vexation of his heart, wherein he hath laboured under the sun?

  •   The Long term?

2:15    Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also [is] vanity.

  • What does total, complete, un-compromising surrender to our Redeemer/Creator do for us ‘Now’?

Mark  10:29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s,

 10:30            But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions;

  • God can change you, re-create you, in His Image and yet maintain your Unique-ness or Individuality as He has purposed for all mankind right from the Beginning!

Hebrews  8:10         For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

 8:11   And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.

 8:12   For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more

  • Not only our Mind and Character, but also our Body!

Romans 8:18            For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time [are] not worthy [to be compared] with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

 8:19   For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

 8:20   For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected [the same] in hope,

 8:21   Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God

 8:22   For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

 8:23   And not only [they], but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, [to wit], the redemption of our body

 8:24   For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

8:25    But if we hope for that we see not, [then] do we with patience wait for [it].

  • God’s Word is Straightforward and Clear enough if we read it slowly and carefully!
