MORAL, IMMORAL OR AMORAL?
Ephesians 5:18,19 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled the Spirit; 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
- Why make music? To make joyful the soul! To fill that vacuum God put there for affection and communication with ‘Him’!
Isaiah 48:22 [There is] no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (Jer. 6:16)

- Tone of Voice – Sarcasm / Sincerity, Doubt / Belief, Harshness / Tenderness, Listlessness / Enthusiasm
- Clothing style – Amoral? (eg. Mini skirt cf. Long dress) Likewise Music style! Sight / Sound – Spiritual Eyesight / Spiritual Hearing (eg. Smooth, Gentle music cf. Heavy, Rhythmic music)
- Commonsense – A ‘Horror movie’ has appropriate ‘Eerie music’; Likewise ‘Swinging or Rocking rhythms in Dance music promote ‘promiscuous sexual behaviour’ with its associated emotions and feelings
Exodus 32 32:17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, [There is] a noise of war in the camp.
32:18 And he said, [It is] not the voice of [them that] shout for mastery, neither [is it] the voice of [them that] cry for being overcome: [but] the noise of [them that] sing do I hear. – Types of sound – War, or Singing? Bad music undermines Good Words or Lyrics = Corruption
God overlooks Genuine Ignorance but then He Calls us to ‘Prove All things’

5:22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.
- We are to be Gentle in Rebuking and Guiding into True and Deep Spiritual Discernment, After all,
We are all ‘Growing in Grace and knowledge’ and are at different stages!
2 Peter 3:1 But grow in grace, and [in] the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him [be] glory both now and for ever. Amen. Train our Ears, and Spiritual Ears (Emotions, Tastes etc.) to Appreciate the Finer, Nobler qualities of all that is Wholesome, Pure, dignified, Nothing to be ashamed of but Beautiful, Elevating, Inspiring, and Appropriate for the Ocassion!
- Let us neither be ‘Legalistic’ – Hard and Fast with our Ideas of ‘Good music’ or
‘Licentious’ – Allowing just about Anything to pass as ‘Good music’
But Pray together for the Guidance and Joy of the Holy Spirit!

- Anoint thine eyes with eyesalve (spiritual discernment) (and, by implication, apply ear drops to your ears, that you may ‘hear’ ) (also spiritual discernment)

Principles that Govern our Spiritual life should also govern our Musical Taste and Performances :
James 3:15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish.
3:16 For where envying and strife [is], there [is] confusion and every evil work.
3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, [and] easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things.
